Professor James Carnes I
am Professor James Carnes. I am the founder of Wellness
Hypno-Therapeutics. I am also the
President and Executive Director of the Institute for Philosophical Studies,
Inc., a research and educational institution, where I engage in research and
teach the subjects of Philosophy, Psychology and Cognitive Science. I am a
member in good standing with the National Guild of Hypnotists (NGH), the
American Philosophical Association (APA), and the Wisconsin Philosophical
Association (WPA). I
have been studying and using Hypnosis for over 35 years. My formal
training in Hypnosis began in 1975 at the University of Wisconsin- Madison, with
graduate classes in Psychology and continued in my PhD program in the Psychology
Department at the University at Buffalo Graduate School from 1977 to 1981.
My graduate work was in the field of Personality and Social Psychology.
My research focus is Intentionality: perception, attitude and emotion.
I have continued to advance my knowledge and skills since Graduate School
through teaching, study and research in the fields of Philosophy, Psychology and
Cognitive Science. Through
the discipline of Philosophy we get our most fundamental understanding of our
minds and consciousness. This
provides the theoretical framework and basis for all of our knowledge.
Psychology, the science that studies behavior, provides important data
about behavior and the workings of human cognition and emotions.
These data are used to refine our theories about the mind.
Cognitive Science puts the theoretical foundations of what must be true
together with data and knowledge from Psychology and many other disciplines to
give us a comprehensive view of our mental lives. This total view includes not
only our understanding of perceptions, intelligence, emotions, behavior,
consciousness and
cognitive processes but also integrates these with brain and neurological
functioning, information processing as well as our overall biology.
In recent years Cognitive Science has provided our greatest advances in
understanding the mind-body processes and benefits of Hypnosis.
I am constantly updating my knowledge in these areas through
courses, seminars, professional journals and conferences. As
a Consulting Hypnotist I
am certified as a hypnotherapist by the National Guild of Hypnotists which is
the oldest and largest professional hypnotism organization in the world.
It's certification is the most widely recognized credential for the professional
practice of Hypnotism. Note
that I am neither trained nor licensed as a clinical psychologist. I do
not practice psychotherapy in any sense. For
psychotherapy needs please consult a qualified, licensed professional. Over
the past three decades we have made many great scientific advances
in our knowledge of human consciousness and its relation to the whole of human
existence. I started Wellness
Hypno-Therapeutics to help people improve
their lives through direct application of this new knowledge.
